Every shoe tells a story!
In 1969 University of Oregon track and field coach Bill Bowerman made this shoe, weighing less than three ounces, for track phenomenon Steve Prefontaine. Prefontaine set an American record in the three mile in a pair of shoes designed by Bowerman—a man who once used his wife's waffle iron to mold soles for his track team. It's said that those shoes were the start of a company: Nike. Bowerman co-founded Nike and designed several of their shoes.From National Geographic Channel
